Overture Australia and News Interactive sign web advertising agreement
SYDNEY, June 9, 2004: Overture Services, a provider of essential online marketing services, and News Interactive (News), the digital arm of News Limited, Australia’s largest media network, have announced an exclusive distribution agreement that will bring Overture’s entire range of products to News’ network of leading Australian websites.
Effective June 10, News Interactive's sites will begin displaying Overture’s Precision Match1 sponsored search and Content Match2 contextual advertising listings. In addition, News Interactive will be implementing Site Search3, Web Search4 and Multimedia Search5 functions powered by Yahoo! Search Technology across its sites, including NEWS.com.au, CareerOne and AustralianIT.
Ms Mel Bohse, Managing Director, Overture Australia, said, “News Interactive realised early on the many benefits of implementing Overture’s entire range of search products and services. As such, it now has a leading solution for driving Internet traffic to advertisers – one that also provides a superior search experience for Australian consumers”.

1 Precision Match is when Overture serves advertiser listings as ‘Sponsor’s Links’ resulting for Web searches conducted by Internet users. Previously called P4P, Precision Match means advertisers pay only when a user clicks on their listing. Price per click is determined by how much the advertiser chose to bid for the search term.
2Content Match is Overture’s contextual advertising product, which places the company's search results on relevant content-based pages of its distribution partners' Web sites. As with Overture's P4P listings, advertisers pay only when a user clicks on their listing. Content Match is offered on a wide variety of content and information pages that get thousands of views every day.
3 Site Search is when Overture’s parent company, Yahoo, enables consumers to use an advanced search option, to search for content within a specific website. For example, a user may want to search News Interactive site to find all stories related to “sailing”, and the technology would pull up all relevant matches to the keyword. This is important as some websites are not equipped with effective search capabilities on their own site.
4 Web Search is when Overture’s parent company, Yahoo, provides the technology for consumers to search the Internet from the home page of an organisation’s website.
5 Multimedia Search is when Overture’s parent company, Yahoo, provides the technology for consumers to search the Internet, specifically for images, from web pages across the Internet.
