Study shows SAS dominates global advanced analytics market
By a large margin, more enterprises worldwide rely on SAS® advanced analytics than any other brand, according to IDC's Business Analytics Software 2012-2016 Forecast and 2011 Vendor Shares report.
SAS' share of the advanced analytics segment was 35.2 per cent in 2011, up from 34.8 per cent in 2010, according to IDC. That was more than the entire share for the remaining advanced analytic vendors named. IBM, in second place, held just 16.8 per cent.
IDC also named SAS a top five provider in numerous business analytics categories, including business intelligence tools, data warehouse platforms, performance management applications, end-user query/reporting tools, data warehouse generation software and supply chain analytics.
The business analytics software market grew 14.1 per cent in 2011, according to IDC, which forecasts a 9.8 per cent compound annual growth rate through 2016.
"For many years, organisations viewed information technology as a cost centre. That perception is rapidly changing as corporate leaders realise the benefits of analytics. Enterprises increasingly understand that analytic insights can make IT a business driver [which] boosts the bottom line," said Jim Davis, SAS Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer.
Hewlett-Packard uses SAS Analytics to analyse both structured and unstructured data. The results can reveal important insights and valuable early-market intelligence, ultimately benefiting HP's business results.
"The analysis of public data helps us proactively address product requirements and even anticipate service issues in our call centres," said Prasanna Dhore, HP Vice President of Global Customer Intelligence. "Customer satisfaction on existing products in the field is increased, but we can also fine-tune the next generation of the product to increase sales. That's just one of the many ways we employ SAS Analytics to improve the business."
