Promethean Planet reaches 1 million The world’s largest interactive whiteboard community just got bigger

Sydney, Australia, 26 July 2011 – Promethean Planet, the collaborative online community dedicated to improving teaching and learning via technology, has now reached over 1 million worldwide members.

Established by Promethean, a global education technology company, in July 2006 the community has taken just five years to reach this incredible milestone.

Promethean Planet is now used by over one million educators, in more than 150 countries who gather daily to collaborate, exchange ideas, share best practice, and browse almost 35,000 free and publisher-supplied resources. While it began as a community for users of Promethean technology, it has grown to now include members with a wide variety of classroom and technology experiences.

Commenting on reaching this extraordinary 1 million milestone, Brent Taggart, President of Promethean Community & Content, said: “Reaching 1 million members is a tremendous achievement and has happened thanks to a great many people who have worked to develop the community over the years. Not least of all amongst these are the Planet members themselves. Whether posting in the forum, contributing blog articles, moderating groups, or sharing educational resources, it’s their contributions that make Planet what it is!”

In Australia, teachers have already discovered the extensive resources available. From Acting Assistant Principal at St Brigid’s Primary School in Kyogle NSW, Jacqueline Moore, “The Promethean Planet website is always my first stop for inspiring new ideas! It is continually being updated with new lessons and resource packs for busy teachers, by busy teachers! The Planet community provides teachers all over the world a place to collaborate, learn new skills and keep up to date with current best practice”.

And from Olivia Schultz, Henschke Primary School, Wagga Wagga NSW, “Being a school that is located in rural New South Wales, we were concerned that our opportunities to network and share resources with other schools would be limited. However, due to the high quality of resources available from Promethean Planet we have access to a wealth of great ideas and relevant classroom support material. These resources save time, and cover such a wide range of topics, that our staff do not feel disadvantaged by our geographic location, but rather utilize the fantastic work created by other teachers from all around the world”.

In Victoria, Libby Moore from Scotch College said, “Many teachers worldwide teach similar curriculum and topics, it is an excellent way to share products and ideas!”

And from Jacqueline Moore, Acting Assistant Principal, St Brigid's Primary School, Kyogle NSW, “I love the forum, I check it everyday, it keeps me in touch with what is happening with software so I can better support the other teachers in my area”.
