Increased IT automation demand sees UiPath appoint APAC VP

UiPath has named Thomas Chin vice president of sales for Asia Pacific (APAC), following a sustained period of growth across the region.
Chin will be responsible for driving sales and distribution for UiPath’s robotic process automation (RPA) platform throughout Greater China, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Southeast Asia.
“The Asia Pacific region is a huge market for RPA, and we see companies and governments seeking RPA as a solution to improve productivity and drive development,” said Chin.
“Asia is a very diverse region, with different countries requiring RPA for different reasons,” added Chin.
Based out of Hong Kong, Chin will oversee an increase in regional headcount to more than 150 in 2018, to better manage the “explosive growth” expected from RPA in the coming years.
Given current market trends, it is not hard to see the appeal of RPA. With a labour crunch impacting global markets, automation is increasingly being looked at as a solution to alleviate labour gaps.
Routine repetitive workloads can be handed by RPA, in a sense, creating a virtual workforce, freeing up employees to perform more high-level tasks.
However, the reality is not so straightforward. The utility of such technology has lead to explosive growth in recent years, which has led to a lack of technical expertise associated with its development and implementation. This will need to be addressed over the coming years or its growth may stagnate.
The software vendor has grown significantly in the past 12 months across key Asian markets, opening new offices in Japan, China and South Korea.
“Thomas’ appointment will help UiPath expand our presence in Asia Pacific, specifically into new markets such as China,” said Daniel Dines, CEO and co-founder of UiPath.
The business also expanded into Singapore on the back of the company’s US$153 million funding round earlier this year.
“I look forward to working with partners and customers throughout Asia – from Thailand to Singapore, and China to Malaysia – helping them implement, from concept to realisation,” said Chin.
In his previous position, Chin drove sales for the networking solutions provider, Solarflare Communications; based in San Francisco.
