Metro Retail Stores Group has unveiled plans to roll out G Suite office collaboration tools in the Philippines through a partnership with Globe Business, the enterprise arm of Globe Telecom.

Designed to drive digital transformation efforts, the deployment also aims to enhance employee productivity in a business housing more than 9000 employees.

With market presence stretching back 36 years - having initially started out as Gaisano Metro - Metro encompasses multiple store formats, including Metro Department Store, Metro Supermarket and Super Metro Hypermarket.

In running 54 stores, the combined business serves more than 250,000 shoppers on a daily basis across the country.

“Being a prime enabler of Metro Retail Stores Group in their pursuit to become a premier retail hub gives us a sense of achievement and responsibility,” said Peter Maquera, senior vice president of Globe Business.

“Globe Business is all about using technology to maximise our clients’ operating efficiency which will translate to increased savings and profitability.”

From a technology perspective, Metro will leverage “secure and reliable” workplace tools for email, calendar, text and video chat, in addition to document creation, project websites and online storage and sync capabilities.

Powered by Google Cloud, the G Suite offering will also provide storage for up to 30GB of email per user, backed  up by spam filtering, message search, integrated text, voice and multi-person video chat. Through the deployment, Metro will also leverage features such as Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets and Slides.

“The need to keep up and stay competitive is now more apparent and that is why we chose Globe Business as our partner in the company’s ongoing drive to digitally transform,” added Rex Cabanilla, chief technical officer, Metro Retail Stores.

“Before we implement far-reaching measures to revolutionise our business, we initiated the digitalisation of our day-to-day business operations in the way our employees communicate and collaborate with each other."
