Tencent has signed an agreement with the National University of Singapore (NUS) to set up a program designed to incubate start-ups through cloud services.

In partnering with the entrepreneurial arm, NUS Enterprise, the Chinese vendor will provide cloud solutions, technical support, expertise and training specific to Tencent Cloud.

Within the first year, up to 20 NUS start-ups will be mutually selected by Tencent and NUS to leverage such services, backed by in-country marketing efforts.

“We are proud to collaborate with the National University of Singapore, a top-tier academic institution, in nurturing local companies in the country by leveraging Tencent's expertise in the cloud space and through our cloud products that cover various sectors, from finance, telecoms, e-commerce, travel and hospitality as well as online game and entertainment,” said Flying Wu, general manager of International Business Group, Tencent.

“We look forward to more collaborations with different educational institutes and businesses in Singapore in the future.”

The selected NUS start-ups will also be granted access to Tencent's Artificial Intelligence Lab, dedicated AI services to help emerging businesses create applications, in addition to "reasonable access" to ecosystem support.

“We are grateful for Tencent's support and contribution to NUS Enterprise's ongoing efforts in incubating start-ups and supporting entrepreneurs in Singapore,” added Professor Freddy Boey, deputy president of Innovation and Enterprise, NUS.

“NUS-affiliated start-ups can benefit from Tencent Cloud's wide range of products and gain exposure as well as awareness through Tencent's ecosystem.”
