Rackspace has appointed Sandeep Bhargava as managing director of Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) in a newly created position designed to drive regional growth.

Effectively immediately, Singapore-based Bhargava is tasked with overseeing expansion efforts across the market, backed by the establishment of “strong local teams”.

Bhargava joins the cloud provider with more than 20 years of IT services experience, following roles at DXC Technology, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), HP, Dell EMC and Procter & Gamble.

“Our teams across the APJ region work tirelessly to unlock digital transformation potential for our clients, and I am pleased to come on board to support and lead them in their journey,” said Bhargava. “With the industry balancing concerns about how to best invest in new cloud technologies while optimising legacy IT, the time is ripe to help companies of all shapes and sizes navigate this complexity with Rackspace.”

The appointment comes as part of a double management hire for the provider in APJ, with Sydney-based Sean Girvin recruited as managing director of Australia and New Zealand, replacing Darryn McCoskery in the role.

Prior to joining Rackspace, Girvin held leadership roles at HPE, HP and Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in a career spanning more than 40 countries.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Sandeep and Sean to the Rackspace family,” said Kevin Jones, CEO of Rackspace. “They bring with them a wealth of global experience and outstanding track records for leading and transforming businesses with energy and passion.

"I’m looking forward to seeing their positive influence take shape in the region with their teams, and our customers and partners."
