NTT Data has joined the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) amid plans to build out new cloud, open source and digital capabilities.

Founded in 2015, CNCF is a non-profit member organisation of the Linux Foundation designed to promote cloud native computing, housing more than 300 member companies, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Google Cloud.

Other key members include Apple, Dell Technologies, Oracle, SAP and Salesforce, in addition to IBM, Cisco, VMware, Pivotal and Intel.

Through the development of open source projects, CNCF provides "vendor-neutral" cloud technology support, such as Envoy, which is a proxy software developed and donated to the CNCF.

“CNCF will allow us to develop new capabilities and contribute to the diffusion of cloud native computing while strengthening our cloud strategy and business,” said Masatoshi Hiraoka, head of Digital Technology and Engineering, NTT Data.

In facilitating the growth of open source projects such as Kubernetes, Prometheus and Envoy, Hiraoka said CNCF - of which NTT Data is now a silver member - will help the business “more effectively” support digital transformation and modernisation efforts at a customer-level.

“We have an aggressive goal to increase cloud sales by $922 million over the next three years, and our membership will further increase our ability to deliver solutions that have a positive impact for our clients,” Hiraoka added.

The addition comes six weeks after global SAP specialist itelligence AG acquired ISS Consulting, as the subsidiary of NTT Data Group builds out software capabilities in Thailand.

Based in Bangkok, ISS Consulting is one of leading SAP consulting firms across the country, focusing on manufacturing, automotive, retail, and food and beverage industry sectors.

Employing around 250 people, the business specialises in S/4 HANA, C/4 HANA, SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Ariba, in addition to SAP HANA Cloud, SAP Business By Design and help desk support.

Meanwhile itelligence AG is part of the global NTT Data group and employs over 8,000 people across 25 countries, operating as a global platinum partner of SAP.
