ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has acquired the remaining 26 per cent stake of Tata Communications in STT Tai Seng, comprising of three colocation facilities in Singapore.

The agreement comes two years after STT GDC entered into a strategic partnership with Tata’s data centre business in Singapore and India, holding a 74 per cent majority stake across both markets.

Upon closing of the deal, STT GDC will now own 100 per cent of the facilities in Singapore, while the strategic partnership structure remains unchanged in India.

According to the data centre specialists, plans remain in place to provide “high quality” data centre colocation offerings to customers across all facilities in Singapore and India.

“We entered into the partnership with Tata Communications in 2016, and Tata Communications has since been an outstanding partner for our business in Singapore and India,” said Bruno Lopez, group CEO of STT GDC. “Following this transaction, we look forward to deepening our strategic partnership in Singapore and will continue to extend our joint venture’s market leadership position in India.

“STT GDC is committed to support the customers in STT Tai Seng as their businesses expand within Singapore, India and beyond.”

Through the acquisition, Lopez said the business will continue to execute its strategic operational plans, centred around expanding and strengthening STT Tai Seng’s position as an interconnection hub across Asia Pacific.

Connected to various tier-1 submarine cable systems such as the Australia Singapore Cable (ASC) and TGN - Intra Asia (TGN-IA), STT Tai Seng provides direct access to multiple ISPs, telecommunication providers and cloud service providers.

“With full acquisition of the Singapore business, it reflects our commitment and continued confidence in the market, and we are thrilled to accelerate our growth plans to support our customers’ business trajectory,” added Clement Goh, CEO of Southeast Asia, STT GDC. “Since 2014, STT GDC has now grown to a fleet of seven purpose-built data centres of over 90,000sqm of gross floor area locally.

“Adding STT Tai Seng 1 as a carrier-neutral and an interconnection hub with access to a wide selection of local, regional and global network operators and internet service providers, STT GDC is well-positioned to provide enterprises with a robust interconnection ecosystem, delivering to their diverse domestic and international connectivity needs.”
