Singapore Airlines (SIA) has engaged Sourced Group to help accelerate digital transformation plans, deepening capabilities within AWS Cloud.

Through the partnership - revealed to Channel Asia - the specialist consulting partner worked jointly with the premium airline to modernise application development processes through the creation of a new cloud delivery pipeline.

Sourced also assisted in the migration of applications from SIA’s data centre to the AWS Cloud, backed up by training in cloud and modern DevOps practices.

“We are delighted to be a strategic partner for SIA in support of their cloud-first strategy,” said John Painter, managing director of ASEAN at Sourced Group. “Working closely with the SIA team, we were able to rapidly deliver a secure and resilient cloud native platform built on AWS and introduce new application development concepts to the organisation.”

According to Painter, cloud adoption and application development modernisation represent "core elements" of SIA’s digital transformation program, designed to enable the airline to better serve a global customer base through increased agility and innovation.

Sourced delivered the essential AWS Cloud infrastructure, application pipelines and compliance templates - including extensive security and controls to meet regulatory requirements - in six weeks through its Cloud at Scale Core Foundations program.

Painter said the program shortens lead times and enables enterprise customers in regulated industries to realise “early benefits” of cloud adoption.

“It’s exciting to work with an innovative and forward-thinking client that shares an aligned vision,” Painter added. “This is a fantastic direction for SIA, and key to long-term strategic success. We’re deeply committed to the future success of SIA and the ASEAN region and look forward to continuing a long-term, mutually rewarding relationship with both.”

Sourced was also involved in the adoption of modern application development methods, including continuous delivery and rolling immutable infrastructure to enable high velocity application updates.

Through automation using serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda, Painter said SIA can now make changes to an application in a “matter of minutes”, while also building multiple versions of the application per business day without downtime through leveraging Sourced’s blue/green deployment methodology.

Painter said such a “rapid creation” of environments and “dramatic increase” in production release velocity has been key to accelerating innovation and customer outcomes at SIA.

Delving deeper, SIA gained heightened visibility into key operations with the release of an early warning system that provides the airline with real-time reporting and SLA management of their downstream APIs, dependant services and providers.

Sourced also overhauled the organisation’s operational environment with the implementation of real-time booking metrics, replacing a daily manual reporting process with automated, five-minute interval updates of overall booking loads.

The partnership comes weeks after Singapore-based Certis selected Sourced as a strategic partner in the security specialist’s adoption of AWS Cloud, as part of widespread digital transformation plans.

As revealed by Channel Asia, terms of the agreement will see Sourced deliver essential cloud infrastructure and security frameworks using its Cloud at Scale Core Foundations program, built on AWS.

With deep AWS expertise, Sourced specialises in cloud security, governance and compliance across Singapore, Australia and Canada markets, having recently achieved AWS Premier Consulting Partner status in the AWS Partner Network (APN).
