Philippines recruits for 5800 digital and cloud roles

Demand heightening for external expertise through the channel

A total of 5816 digital and cloud-related jobs are currently on offer in the Philippines, signalling an opportunity for channel partners to fill a widening gap in the market.

Local figures from Indeed - a worldwide employment-related search engine - highlight a country in the midst of a transformation recruitment drive, heightening demand for external expertise through specialists, consultants, integrators, service providers and resellers.

Specific to digital, 3890 roles currently exist, with most demand linked to positions across the technology portfolios of Google (443) and Microsoft (412). The chasing pack covers Salesforce (92), SAP (75) and Oracle (60), alongside AWS (54), Cisco (30) and IBM (16).

Demand for digital roles is most prominent across the locations of Makati (733), Manila (660), Pasig (334), Quezon City (333) and Taguig (290).

Meanwhile, 1926 cloud-related positions are also available, with searches related to Microsoft (360) and AWS (324) coming out on top. This was followed by cloud-related roles at Oracle (239), SAP (161) and Google (160), in addition to Salesforce (130), Cisco (95) and IBM (70).

Within the context of cloud, key areas of expertise span engineers (621), developers (598) and integration (426), followed by consultants (189) and architects (184).

Geographically speaking, the top five key cloud locations cover Makati (523), Manila (481), Taguig (155), Quezon City (131) and Mandaluyong (83).

Whether from the perspective of the end-user or partner, an opportunity exists for the Filipino channel to skill up in digital transformation and cloud computing, either through an outsourcing or collaborative play.

Such findings follow a recent forecast from IDC, which claims that at least 30 per cent of organisations across the Philippines will achieve "digital determination" by 2020.

IDC classifies organisations as either digitally distraught or digitally determined based on their readiness to leverage the full potential of digital transformation.

As reported by Channel Asia, digitally determined organisations demonstrate the ability to "visualise" how the markets and customers will change, while "reinventing themselves" to better respond to the needs of future stakeholders through new and emerging technologies, capabilities and business models.

“To be digitally determined, Philippine organisations require more than just resilience; they need a 'blueprint' that consists of a unified enterprise strategy, a long investment plan based on the principle that digital is inherently valuable to the business, and a single digital platform to scale technology innovations,” said Sudev Bangah, managing director of ASEAN at IDC.

“But aside from these technical aspects, digital determination involves having the will to make the required organisational and cultural changes to better adapt in today’s digital transformation age."

Furthermore, according to Bangah, new technologies are changing paradigms for individuals, businesses, industries, economies, and governments.

“The race to the future enterprise has begun,” said Bangah. “And with digital disruption becoming the new normal, no one and no entity will be spared of the need to at least reset or reboot themselves, if not reinvent.”
