Indonesian state-owned enterprise (BUMN) and social insurance agency has collaborated with Oracle Cloud to help more than 250,000 city-dwelling Indonesians travel home for Hari Raya.
Beginning on 5 June, the period of celebration marks the end of Islam’s holiest month of Ramadan.
Oracle Cloud has continued to help the agency scale its public-accessible registration database for travellers in the Bareng BUMN 2019 program, which saw a breaking record 250,000 travellers in 155 cities via land, sea and air travel during 2018.
Jasa Raharja, the organisation responsible for co-ordinating the program, has used the Oracle Mobile Cloud Service to help the program scale, allowing more Indonesians to travel home as a result.
In 2018, 250,000 Indonesians benefited from the program, an increase of 70 per cent from the year before. The number of Mudik Gratis destination cities has also increased year by year, from 77 cities in 2016, 84 cities in 2017, to become 155 cities in 2018.
The BUMN Mudik program is a complementary initiative by 62 Indonesian state-owned enterprises, led by Jasa Raharja, which transports city-dwelling residents home via land, sea and air travel services available during the Hari Raya period.
“Our Mudik Bareng BUMN program has been very well-received over the years,” said Tri Haryanto, executive vice president of ICT, Jasa Raharja. “Every year, we get an increasing number of travel applicants on our public site, and thus needed a platform that can help us keep up to date of all community members who registered on the Mudik Bareng BUMN program anytime and anywhere, all in real-time.
“Oracle Mobile Cloud Service provides a cost-effective cloud solution that is perfect for Mudik Bareng BUMN’s fluctuating temporary and seasonal requirements."
The Islamic calendar has 12 months, however, unlike the Gregorian calendar, it is based on lunar cycles, as such the Islamic calendar moves backwards by about 10 days relative to the Gregorian calendar each year, meaning weather fluctuations as the lunar calendar moves through the seasons, which travel organisers need to account for.

Jasa Raharja is not looking back and plans to continue to use its Oracle cloud platform solutions to cater yearly for the seasonal crowds and has plans to keep leveraging Oracle Cloud Platform for future Mudik Bareng BUMN Programs.
Mudik or Pulang Kampung is an Indonesian term for the activity where migrants or migrant workers return to their hometown or village during or before major holidays, especially Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr).
