Leaseweb has appointed Benjamin Schönfeld as managing director of Asian operations, as the hosting provider targets expansion across the region.
Based in Singapore, Schönfeld - who joins effective immediately - will be tasked with spearheading growth in emerging markets such as China, South Korea and Japan.
With strong roots in Europe, Leaseweb operates 19 data centres worldwide, in addition to existing locations in Singapore, Hong Kong and Sydney.
“Singapore is an IT hotspot,” Schönfeld said. “As a Singapore-based company, we have a very attractive range of services to offer to the local economy. This applies to companies with a local focus as well as companies with worldwide operations.”
Before moving to Singapore, Schönfeld was responsible for the development of Leaseweb in Germany, leveraging experience across technology, hosting and cloud computing sectors.
Founded in 1997, Leaseweb operates as an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider serving a global portfolio of 17,500 customers, spanning small businesses and enterprise.
Key offerings include public cloud, private cloud, dedicated servers and colocation, alongside content delivery network and cyber security services.
With more than 80,000 servers under management, Leaseweb has also provided infrastructure for mission-critical websites, Internet applications, email servers, security and storage services.
