Amazon Web Services' elastic container service for Kubernetes (Amazon EKS) capability has arrived in Singapore, together with Sydney, Tokyo and Frankfurt.
Amazon EKS is designed to make easy to deploy manage, and scale containerised applications using Kubernetes across multiple AWS availability zones to eliminate a single point of failure.
The service is certified Kubernetes conformant, making it possible to use existing tooling and plugins from partners and the Kubernetes community. Applications running on any standard Kubernetes environment are fully compatible and can be migrated to Amazon EKS.
Furthermore, microservices applications can now be set-up and run with deep integrations to AWS services, while getting access to the full suite of Kubernetes functionality and popular open source tooling.
Batch processing is also possible, making use of the Kubernetes Jobs API that allows sequential or parallel workloads to run on an Amazon EKS cluster.
Amazon EKS will also enable hybrid container deployments utilising Kubernetes to run on AWS while while maintaining full compatibility with your Kubernetes deployments running anywhere else.
AWS has witnessed continued growth globally and across the region, accounting for 40 per cent of customer investments in public cloud services according to recent research by Synergy Research Group.
The findings from this research highlight a vendor deeply entrenched in the cloud spending plans of businesses, operating as a “clear leader” in all four of the world’s major regions, spanning both infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) markets, accounting for the bulk of the revenues.
Furthermore, the hyper-scale cloud provider continues to be involved in major regional initiatives, such as Hong Kong-based WTT’s collaboration with System Aid Medical Services to migrate its Hong Kong Medical Association Clinic Management System onto the provider’s platform.
Expected to commence service during the first quarter of 2019, the migration to AWS aims to speed up the system’s operations from administration, clinical management to finance management on a secure cloud computing environment, facilitating a more secure way to access the government’s electronic medical records over traditional on-premise IT infrastructure.
The use of data analytics to track and analyse medical histories aids the work of doctors in faster and more accurate diagnosis and dosage decision for patients. The system will also provide doctors a platform for useful real-time information sharing.
In addition, AWS continue to drive up demand for data centre services in Singapore and across the Asia Pacific region, as reported by Channel Asia.
With more born-in-the-cloud businesses coming online, the demand for leased data centre services looks set to rise for the foreseeable future.
The born-in-the-cloud era began some years back, but as the Asia Pacific region continues to modernise more such organisations continue to increase, and look set to transform the partner ecosystem across the region.
Such partners have embraced delivery of computing resources and software via a cloud-based delivery model, rather than on-premise hardware and licensed software.
