Tata Communications has been appointed as a launch partner for Microsoft Teams Direct Routing, enabling the collaboration software to be delivered over the provider's tier-1 global network.

Microsoft Teams is a platform that brings together workplace chat, meetings, notes, and attachments, with Office 365 integration - the service has been available worldwide since March 2017.

"This breakthrough for cloud-based collaboration means that our customers will be able to make the most of the flexibility and scale of Microsoft Teams, whilst leveraging their existing voice assets,” said Peter Quinlan, vice president of business collaboration at Tata Communications.

“It is all about enabling enterprises to plan a smooth transition to the cloud and other digital platforms at a pace that works for them, and paving the way for truly borderless, seamless collaboration."

The Direct Routing capability will leverage Tata’s global managed SIP offering to better serve global customers, enabling them to connect existing voice infrastructure to the Microsoft Teams environment directly, anywhere in the world.

Microsoft’s partnership with Tata will also aim to eliminate complexity around integrating VOIP telephony with legacy systems because of Tata’s interoperability capability.

"In this age of flexible working and globally dispersed teams, our leading-edge performance monitoring tools will also ensure that users everywhere will have the best possible collaboration experience with Microsoft Teams,” said Quinlan.

This is just the latest move Tata has made to assist regional enterprises to scale and internationalise their offerings.

A recent example is Tata’s collaboration with Singapore-based start-up W-Locate to accelerate its international expansion.

W-Locate made use of Tata’s MOVE platform and IZO Private Cloud to expand its real-time location-based information services across South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand, providing a fully managed solution for cross-border connectivity necessary for international IoT services.

Singapore is Microsoft’s regional headquarters and has been located in the country since 1990.

The Singapore presence now has over 850 employees and counting, with one innovation centre, and one cybercrime satellite centre - there are 1,580 Singapore-based organisations now in Microsoft’s Partner Network.
