Ascend Money has selected Red Hat to help enable and accelerate electronic payments across Southeast Asia.

Red Hat, an open source solutions specialist, will provide its OpenShift Container Platform, Ansible Automation and Satellite offerings, to Ascend Money.

Ascend Money will use the vendor’s technology to scale and better enable the rapid delivery of application services across the region.

On moving to open source technology, Jason Jackson, group chief technology officer, Ascend Money, said, “On our road to digital transformation, it was critical for us to move to open source and take advantage of innovative technologies like Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and Red Hat Ansible Automation to host and scale applications across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.”

There are 30 million people currently served through Ascend Money’s payment platform, TrueMoney.

A number of services are supported through the service providers payment platform, including bill payments, mobile top-ups, money transfers, and online and offline payments.

The rapid of growth of its user base has presented its own challenges that prompted the company to source a solution that would enable it to scale better.

“We hope to ride on the growth of mobile payments in Southeast Asia by scaling our business footprint in the region in a cost-effective and efficient manner with Red Hat’s technologies,” Jackson added.

The open source platform provided by Red Hat met the company’s criteria and provided the technology necessary to scale and meet Ascend Money’s business objectives.

“With Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Red Hat Ansible Automation and Red Hat Satellite as its flexible, scalable foundation, Ascend Money can achieve enhanced business value by offering new features to customers more quickly while also maintaining a more secure and stable environment,” said Damien Wong, vice president and general manager, Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong, Red Hat.

A key trend across the enterprise is the move to hybrid and multi-cloud environments. This cloud model enables sensitive data to stay on-premise while other data can be moved to a public cloud, in some cases temporarily to offload processing.

Multi-cloud environments also have the effect of eliminating the reliance on any single cloud provider.

Red Hat’s OpenShift Container Platform will allow Ascend Money to more rapidly create, host, and scale applications across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

The platform will help unite its developers and IT operations on a single platform for modern and traditional applications with shorter development cycles and increased efficiencies.

The other two technologies, Red Hat Ansible Automation and Red Hat Satellite, will provide Ascend Money with effective management and automated provisioning of infrastructure across all environments.
