ThoughtWorks has named Thao Dang as head of technology for Southeast Asia, representing the first female leader for the software development specialists.
Coming with 11 years of tech consulting experience, Dang, who has spent the past five years as a developer and team lead at Thoughtworks, will lead regional operations from the company’s office in Singapore.
Specifically, her focus will be on building out the technology strategy and direction, capability engine, and engaging with the technology community and the company’s clients.
“I am excited to take on this role, and leverage my passion and skills to drive technology innovation and skills development within ThoughtWorks Singapore,” Dang said.
“As part of a company of purpose-led technologists, I will be exploring avenues for ThoughtWorks to contribute to the local tech ecosystem and pioneer more partnerships across the public and private sectors.
“I also hope to continue encouraging young female technologists to aspire to leadership positions in tech and grow their careers in this exciting industry.”
The year 2018 marks six years in Singapore for the company.
In that time partnerships have been formed across diverse sectors, such as finance, government, and transport, with digital transformation being the main driver of change and growth for the company.
The importance of culture within an organisation cannot be understated. In a sea of constant change, talented young employees are constantly seeking new opportunities and challenges. A ‘job for life’ is no longer the norm.
Winning and keeping talent within an organisation is a challenge in itself with culture playing a big role in that effort.
“We're proud to announce Thao's appointment as head of technology at the same time that we receive this prestigious award,” ThoughtWorks Southeast Asia managing director, Jessie Xia, added.
“We are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion throughout our organisation every day, and to supporting many more talented individuals as they grow their careers while delivering outstanding client work.
“We do this both through recruitment practices and through programs that support the personal and professional development of our team, ensuring they have the right opportunities and mentorship to grow their careers long term.”
Additionally, in Singapore, ThoughtWorks currently runs the JumpStart! Programme, which is targeted primarily at individuals from non-ICT backgrounds with the aim to build a more diverse tech talent pipeline.
